As a child, I remember my mother saying, "It is far better to give than to receive," and I suspect her mother used to utter those same words to her – as do I to my children. Over the years, I've learned some people give of their time, some of their talents and others prefer to share their wealth. Regardless of how you choose to give back to your community, no act of kindness is ever too small.

From the inception of Watermelon Wishes, I knew there would be a way for us to give something back to the community in which we live. As such, the Watermelon Wishes Foundation was established. Our mission is to provide in-need mothers within Prince William County with a complimentary handmade layette (blanket, burp clothes, diaper bag, bibs and more) to welcome their new baby home from the hospital.

Each of our Featured Artisans here at Watermelon Wishes has generously agreed to donate a handmade item from his or her product line to promote the foundation. Visit our Featured Artisans page for a complete list of donations to date.

How It Works
If you or someone you know, would benefit from a complimentary handmade layette, please take a moment to share the circumstances surrounding your request. Those requests that demonstrate the greatest need, as determined by the Board of Directors, are granted their wish. Requests may be submitted to the address listed above or

In most cases, the handmade layette will be delivered to the address specified on or before the listed due date. All requests are held in the strictest confidence and the recipient's name, address, and other personal information will not be shared.
